DofE Bronze Kayaking - Canoeing Expeditions

Come and do your Bronze Practice and Qualifying DofE Expeditions with Harbour Challenge. Harbour Challenge Outdoor Activity Centre is based at Hamworthy Park in Poole, Dorset offering over 50 years’ worth of industry knowledge.

Participants must be at a British Canoeing 2* level paddling to qualify for entry on these Expeditions.**

We run both our Practice and Qualifying Expeditions over three days and two nights. With both Expeditions containing a full days training and familiarisation at the beginning.

Equipment, food and cooking

  • Chart skills
  • Practical navigation
  • Route planning
  • Compass work
  • Packing barrels and boats.
  • Basic first aid
  • Camp craft
  • Emergency procedures.

During a Practice Expedition groups will receive a mixture or supervised and remotely supervised activities to allow them to put their training into Practice. Whilst during a Qualifying Expedition groups will be remotely supervised to allow them to safely complete their Expedition and for an assessment to take place. Our Expeditions take place in a variety of locations with experienced and friendly Instructors. Our Expeditions are ideal if you don’t have anyone to do it with or can’t make school dates as we will create a private Facebook group beforehand for you to get to know those on your Expedition, and this is where all discussions and planning takes place.

We can offer this in Poole Harbour that incorporates the rivers Piddle and Frome or at other locations on request.

The cost for a Practice Expedition for three days and two nights is £210. The cost for a Qualifying Expedition for three days and two nights is £210

Book both your Practice and Qualifying Expeditions with us for the reduced price of £390

Additional cost of BCU courses if required.

What’s Included:

  • Cost of campsite fees
  • Barrel for kit
  • Expedition equipment, including tents, cooking stoves and fuel for stoves
  • Kayaks or canoes, wetsuits, wind proofs and buoyancy aids
  • Support and guidance from our office before and after your Expedition

What’s not included:

  • All Expedition food (we will provide guidance prior to Expedition on what you will need)
  • Transport to and from location (we will give advice on the easiest way to get there including the use of public transport if required.)
  • Personal clothing and equipment
DofE Bronze Canoeing Expeditions

Please note:

We need a minimum of five participants to run an Expedition, so we take bookings for DofE on the basis that if we do not achieve this minimum on a particular Expedition we will give you the option to change to an alternative date or we will provide you with a full refund.

For already established groups of four or more people other dates may be arranged on request.

**If required Harbour Challenge can offer British Canoeing 2* courses beforehand and will offer a discount for DofE participants that are booking onto one of our Practice of Qualifying Expeditions. These can generally be offered on a date that suits you.
