This is a super introduction to Kayaking, a fantastic sport! Kayaking is a really back-to-basics water sport; it's just you, your kayak, and the water - how extreme you want to be is entirely up to you. Whether you want to explore inland waterways, surf breaking waves, or negotiate charging white water rapids, there is a style of kayaking out there to suit almost anyone.
It will also ensure you have an understanding of how the paddle, boat, and water interact together which will make you a better and more efficient paddler.
You will cover the following technical skills:
- Efficient forward paddling
- Manoeuvring in confined spaces
- Moving sideways
- Steering and Turning
- Rescue Skills including capsize , swim and self rescue
- How to rescue another capsized paddler
- Risk Management and First Aid
- Planning and Environment
You will also be assessed on an accompanied water journey.
Money from every activity you purchase goes directly to helping those less fortunate to try the same activities. You can see where your money makes a difference by checking out our charity page for our latest projects.
Harbour Challenge is easy to find - we are in the centre of Hamworthy Park in Poole. You can leave your car at Hamworthy Park Surface Car Park and take a short walk to the Centre. Please note that this is now a pay and display carpark between March to October.
Take the main path through the park, walk past the paddling pool and cafe to the cream-coloured building at the end of the park. This is the main Harbour Challenge Centre.
