Duration 2 Day course

RYA Level 1 Sailing (Adults) 

The course provides a short introduction to sailing for novices. We offer this course as a single module with 15 hours of tuition spread over your holiday time or weekends.

The course content includes rigging, rope work and knots, practical sailing manoeuvres, clothing and equipment, rules of the road and safety. 

It is recommended that all participants consolidate this short introduction with the  Level 2 course.

By the end of the course, participants will have had a basic understanding of boat handling techniques and background knowledge.

The syllabus includes;

  • Be able to sail in all directions. (Turn the boat)
  • Launching and recovery.
  • Rigging.
  • Launching.
  • Optional Capsize recovery.
  • Experience: No Sailing experience required for this course
  • Add-On: Can add level 2 onto this course
  • Timings: These run from 9.30am - 4.30pm
  • Availability: dates are available on request



Adult RYA Level 2

Duration 2 Day course

RYA Level 2 Sailing (Adults) 

The course enhances the knowledge that you gained in Level 1 and on completion you will be able to sail the boat in moderate conditions without an instructor on-board.. We offer this course as a single module with 15 hours of tuition spread over your holiday time or weekends.

The course content includes:

  • rigging, 
  • rope work and knots, 
  • practical sailing manoeuvres, 
  • clothing and equipment, 
  • rules of the road and safety. 

It is recommended that all participants consolidate this short introduction with the  Level 3 course.

  • Experience: To sail at RYA Level 1 Standard
  • Add-On: Can add level 3 onto this course
  • Timings: These run from 9.30am - 4.30pm

RYA Seamanship Skills

The RYA Seamanship Skills course is all about sailing in adverse conditions. As we all know, things don’t always go to plan! Reefing afloat and heavy weather sailing, sailing without a centreboard, full inversion capsize recovery etc… Sailing without a rudder is an excellent way of truly understanding how to sail a boat well.

RYA Performance Dinghy Sailing Course

An exciting 2-day course for sailors who are confident and competent with their sailing. This is the ultimate top-end dinghy course in high performance boats which combine large sail plans and asymetric spinnakers with trapezes to deliver the ultimate thrill of high speed sailing once you have mastered how to control it all! By the end of the course you will be more confident in a high performance dinghy, both at high speeds on the water and with the subtleties of launching and recovering unstable performance boats. This course may combine both youth and adult sailors.

RYA Start Racing Course

An exciting 2-day course where you will learn and develop a range of skills required for understanding dinghy racing and getting out onto the race course for the first time. An experienced RYA Racing Instructor will take you through the race signals and start sequence, how to start a race and sail the course, mark roundings, racing rules, tactics and boat tuning.

The course is usually sailed in our fleet of Toppers or RS Qbas, and engages the budding competitors in a range of exercises designed to build skills and confidence through practice.

By the end of the course you should have the confidence and skills to venture out to try Club Racing for the first time.

RYA Sailing with Spinnakers

This exciting 1 day course where you will learn how to handle a modern asymetric spinnaker, covering power zones and boat speed, balance, and how to hist, gybe and drop a spinnaker. The course follows the RYA Sailing with Spinnaker syllabus from the National Sailing Scheme, with successful candidates receiving the certificate on completion.

Prior to attending this course you should have comfortably mastered the skills learnt on the RYA Seamanship course.

RYA Day Sailing

This 2 day course will You will give you a chance to learn about passage planning using local charts and taking weather forecasts into consideration. Much of the content focuses on useful skills for small boat cruising, pilotage and decision making. Being on the shores of Poole Harbour  it is ideal for sailing around the harbour or heading out and along a coastline with many features, rocks, tidal influences and small bays to approach.
