RYA Youth Windsurfing Stage 1 is all practical and no theory!
No previous knowledge or experience is necessary. The goal is to get on the water and discover the fun of windsurfing.
You will be shown how to prepare your kit and your board before pushing out into Poole Harbour, where your Instructor will show you how sail, steer, and turn, make progress upwind and downwind, tacking and gybing.
At the end of the course, you will be able to sail to a chosen point on the water and return to where you started in light winds.
All RYA Windsurfing Course Stages are backed up by logbooks*, handbooks* and certificates. Each windsurf course syllabus is broken down into smaller chunks, so that they can be ticked off in the logbook as you progress.
Once a stage is completed then a certificate is issued. As you progress through the RYA Windsurfing scheme, it will start to take longer to complete each stage.
For example, Stages 3 and 4 often take 2 or 3 weeks to complete each, particularly if you haven’t windsurfed since your last course.

Harbour Challenge is easy to find - we are in the centre of Hamworthy Park in Poole. You can leave your car at Hamworthy Park Surface Car Park and take a short walk to the Centre. Please note that this is now a pay and display carpark between March to October.
Take the main path through the park, walk past the paddling pool and cafe to the cream-coloured building at the end of the park. This is the main Harbour Challenge Centre.
